Dubai's gold imports in the first quarter of 2009 grew to 140 tonnes, up 15% from the same period of the previous year, according to data from Dubai World Group.

April saw a 14% increase from the same month last year in gold contracts traded according on the Dubai gold and commodities exchange.

A new record for Gold was set at US$974.7 on the DGCX, the highest volume seen since the Exchange began trading in 2006.

The value of the gold trade rose nearly 5% to US$7.4 billion in the first three months of the year when compared with the first quarter of last year. (source: bi-me.com)
